The Secretary of Environment, Tourism and Sports, Daniel Scioli, the president of the Argentine Automobile Club (ACA), César Carman, and the CEO of Formula One Management (FOM), Stefano Domenicali, held a meeting to discuss the possibility of Argentina hosting a Grand Prix in 2027. During the meeting, held on November 3 during the Brazilian Grand Prix, it was agreed to start processes for the return of Formula 1 to the country, using the Oscar and Juan Gálvez Autodrome in Buenos Aires as the venue for the event.
Stefano Domenicali, CEO of FOM, stated that the return of Formula 1 to Argentina is feasible as long as the infrastructure and safety requirements mandated by the FIA are met. It was also highlighted that the Autodrome must be upgraded to Grade 1, for which FOM sent a document detailing the steps to be taken to the ACA.
It was mentioned that to financially support the Grand Prix, interest is expected from companies in sectors such as oil, technology, and mining, as the Argentine government would not be willing to provide funding due to the current economic situation. The annual tax cost is estimated to be around 40 million dollars, with a possible long-term contract of three to five years.
César Carman stated that Buenos Aires is committed to bringing the autodrome to Grade 2, but reaching Grade 1 will require additional adjustments that could be financed through sponsorships. The possibility of ascending in category is fueled by the interest that Formula 1 driver Franco Colapinto has generated in Argentina, following his recent participations in the premier category of motorsport driving the Williams race car.
